Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify factors that influence stress and job satisfaction of health care
workers in centers for people with dementia in Seoul. Methods Participants were 238 health care workers in Seoul
dementia centers. Data were collected by survey during April and May 2010 and analyzed using t-test, and
ANOVA. Results Job stress and job satisfaction showed significant results for both gender and length of work
in a dementia center. Excessive role had more weight on job stress. Relationships with co-workers and duty had
positive influence on job satisfaction, but pay and government agency clearly had negative effects on job
satisfaction. The results of the correlation analysis showed that job satisfaction was negatively related to job stress.
Conclusion The dementia center is operated for the well-being of elderly with dementia and including the family
indicates a new concept that combines medical treatment and social welfare. Thus, inferior work environments
should be improved and efforts should be made to provide better quality services to meet the demands of today's
society.
